About

John Long is a realtor, entrepreneur, and builder based in Newport County, Rhode Island.

He has worked in real estate since 2013, with more than 400 transactions (200+ sales and 200+ rentals) across Newport County, East Bay Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts, from first homes to historic waterfront estates above $2.5 million. Those transactions span residential sales, commercial sales, off-market deals, and rentals; Zillow lists only residential resales. He represents sellers primarily, works mostly by referral, and keeps a deliberately small book. The practice is built on preparation: research before the sign goes up, pricing discipline, straight answers.

Before real estate, he built careers in media and higher education. He managed NBC's digital properties at USWeb/CKS, served as Director of New Media at Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, and held leadership roles at four New England universities. Every role required the same skill: walk into something complex, learn it fast, and build something that holds.

He is the founder of Zestigram, Inc., a Rhode Island company that builds practical software, including BilledSavings, a free tool that helps families see where their money goes. He builds the engines behind his own sites: the Long Family Archive, a sourced and audited genealogy documenting twenty-one family lines from the Mayflower to Westport, is generated by software he wrote for the purpose. He writes essays on real estate, pattern recognition, and what endures, and writing on the material preconditions of citizenship.

He grew up in Westport, Massachusetts, the eldest of three brothers. His grandfather served 24 years in the Massachusetts House. His father practiced law in Fall River for four decades. The family has worked this coast for four centuries, and he still does. He lives in Newport County, Rhode Island.

Trained in philosophy. Built in practice.
